Trolley Ride in Manhattan

Released in 2000 this was O'Byrne's first novel, based on the short story A Subway Incident - a monthly winner of the Hennessy New Writing Awards. The novel tells the story of a young Irish man injured in a drug-related gun incident who is transported to hospital in an ambulance. The trolley he is lying on flies out the door of the ambulance when it takes a corner too quickly and thus begins his epic and surreal odyssey around the streets of Manhattan.
A darkly comedic stream of consciousness escapade.
